How it all began



Modified stock car racing got its start in the southeastern Wisconsin area during the early 1950's. The full bodied cars soon gave way to the popular cut down coupes and sedans that our area was famous for. Some of the favorite drivers were; Miles "The Mouse" Melius, Billy "The Cat" Johnson, Fuzzy "The Hound" Fassbender, "The Flying Grandpa" Etchie Biertzer, Willie "The Rabbit" Goeden, Don Schuppel, Johnnie Reimer, Greg Krieger, Bill Strom, Eddie Stillman, Pedro Roehl, Gib Wiser, Aaron Solsrud, Dick Duston, Ken "Tweety Bird" Tlougan, Ken "Mighty Mouse" Markwardt, Carl Kulow and many more!

The local tracks consisted of, Hales Corners, Beaver Dam, Cedarburg, State Fair Park, Slinger, Wilmot, Columbus, Rockford, Waukegan and others. The cars usually ran five to six nights a week!

The support division for the modifieds were the full bodied sportsman cars that ever so popular with the fans and fun to watch. Sportsman standouts were; Frank Smith, Roger Regeth, Gino Wagner, Dan "The Rebel" Kopshe, Fred Zack, Jack Brewer, Jim Boehles, Mike Klecker, and many more. These cars became so popular that they even had their own show at Hales on Thursday nights!
